AI isn’t just math and models… it’s a medium. The BC + AI Creativity + Design subgroup is a new space for the community to explore, provoke, and prototype what happens when creativity and design mutate with algorithms in the mix. From the messy sketchbook to the polished product, this subgroup exists to play, experiment, and push boundaries, with a local DNA rooted in British Columbia’s creative and tech ecosystems.

The AI Creativity + Design subgroup aims to carve out a home for anyone curious about the intersection of artificial intelligence and creative practice. Design here is broad: product design, graphic design, UX/UI, architecture, visual arts, VFX, gaming, and more. If your work or curiosity sits where design and AI collide, this is your lane.

This subgroup is distinct from the AI Film Club, which focuses specifically on cinema and storytelling. The AI Creativity + Design subgroup takes a wider-angle view, encompassing the full spectrum of design disciplines and creative experimentation with AI.

What We Do

We’ll carve out a space for:

Tool Exploration: Dive into tools like Midjourney, Figma Make, Runway, ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, and beyond. Push, break, remix—see what’s possible and what’s not.

Practice Sharing: Exchange tips, workflows, and case studies. How are designers, artists, and makers evolving their practice with AI? What’s working, and what’s not?

Critical Dialogue: Ask the big questions: What does “design” mean in an AI-saturated world? Where are the fault lines between tool, co-creator, and exploiter?

Collab Jams: Co-create prompts, prototypes, and public showcases—think zines, pop-up galleries, community challenges, and more.

Ecosystem Mapping: Chart who’s doing what across BC’s design, VFX, gaming, and creative tech scenes. Build bridges between individuals, studios, and institutions.

How We’re Different

Not the AI Film Club: While the Film Club zooms in on cinema and storytelling, we’re casting a wider net—across product and graphic design, UX/UI, architecture, visual arts, and any other field where design and AI meet.

Interdisciplinary by Default: Our conversations and collaborations cross boundaries, from product design to public art, from VFX pipelines to Indigenous tech labs.

Rooted in BC: We keep things local, building on Vancouver and BC’s unique blend of film, gaming, design, and technology.
