A working civic policy lab

The AI Ethical Futures Lab is where builders, artists, educators, workers, researchers, policy people, and community members wrestle with the choices underneath the technology.

Not a panel. Not abstract ethics branding. A real room for live questions, useful disagreement, practical tools, and public-interest action.

We walk forward holding both.

We can be excited about what AI makes possible and serious about who has power, who carries risk, and who gets a say.

The Lab moves between discussion circles, public consultations, laptops-out research, and working sessions. The format changes when the work demands it. The through-line is community knowledge that can travel.

Current work: AI transparency, power & trust

Canada has opened a public consultation on AI transparency. On August 4, we are putting the actual questions on the table at Parker Street Studios.

We are going to take disclosure labels, system cards, incident reporting, and AI agent receipts apart and ask the question underneath all of them:

Does this give people more agency, or just more fine print?

The federal consultation covers five areas:

1. Detecting or identifying AI-generated content
2. Knowing when you are interacting with AI
3. Consistent, understandable information about AI systems
4. Tracking and reporting serious AI incidents
