Overview: Why a Vancouver Island AI Meetup?

Vancouver Island is emerging as a distinct node in the BC + AI ecosystem: interdisciplinary, community-driven, and deeply connected to local issues (oceans, forestry, tourism, public sector) and global AI innovation.

This meetup series is intended to be an inclusive hub for technologists, creatives, entrepreneurs, researchers, and anyone curious about the future of AI on the Island.

The Island’s AI movement is characterized by:

• A grassroots, radically local approach that values diverse perspectives and ethical leadership.
• Strong ties to creative industries, Indigenous leadership, and environmental stewardship.
• A commitment to inclusive collaboration—bridging academia, startups, nonprofits, and industry across Victoria, Nanaimo, Comox, and beyond[1][2].
